Barry Bonds should get in the Hall on first ballot

Barry Bonds
Barry Bonds should make it to the Hall Of Fame on the first ballot, regardless of suspicions about him using performance enhancement drugs.
I feel that Barry Bonds should get elected overwhelmingly into the Hall of Fame on the very first ballot, whenever that takes place. The fact of the matter is that Barry Bonds accumulated hall of fame numbers BEFORE the 1998 season. He had already hit over 250 home runs and already had 7 seasons where he drove in more than 100 runs. He was already walked intentionally with the bases loaded by Buch Showalter of Arizona. His career average was 30 points higher than Cal Ripken Jr., and yet, Barry Bonds, like the Babe, still had some power years left in him. If one were to look at his numbers before the 1998 season, before the incredibly unlikely power numbers a few years into the future, one would pretty much say, "This guy belongs in the Hall".

I agree that Bonds would have had hall of fame numbers whether or not he took steroids. The trick is going to be convincing the fans and the media. Most people will wind up saying that he simply messed up the integrity of the game and shouldn't be in the hall because of that.

(sorry about the double post earlier - I couldn't figure out how to put the link in there!)

Leave as many baseball related links as you want. I think its all up to Bonds himself. He should start talking to the media in a more positive and optimistic manner about his achievements, his love for the game of baseball, his innocence, whathaveyou. He needs to show a little positivity so to speak.

But irregardless, people who know baseball know that Barry Bonds is one of the greatest players of all time. He was when he was small and skinny and he is as a bulky beefed up player. They were walking him with the bases loaded long before he had any big home run numbers in a single season. He would usually get 40 home runs, 40 stolen bases and hit .310. He was a great player, period.
